The New Year brings with it resolutions to learn more and network with other sedation providers. The SPS Education Committee will offer many opportunities to meet these resolutions in 2019.
Online CME
Dr. Jim Hertzog and the Online CME Committee are recruiting talented sedation experts who wish to increase knowledge of a particular aspect of procedural sedation within the SPS membership. These are great opportunities to create educational modules, perhaps with a resident or fellow trainee as there will be at least four modules developed annually. There is a particular interest in providers representing the spectrum of sedation providers, from within anesthesia, critical care, hospital medicine or emergency room care.
SPS Annual Conference 2019
The SPS Conference and Sedation Provider Course in the Mile High City in 2019 will showcase many of the Society’s educational opportunities. The Annual Conference will offer popular workshops such as Nitrous Oxide and Airway Management with a new addition of End-tidal CO2 monitoring. Medical, dental and nursing providers will find many interesting presentations by their colleagues and numerous opportunities to network. Early morning PBLD’s by sedation experts provide stimulating breakfast conversation, and a new evening fireside chat with SPS leaders offers a relaxing way to discuss challenging cases.
SPS Sedation Provider Course®
The annual SPS Sedation Provider Course® features all new updated content: from the syllabus, to e-learning modules, airway workshop and SIM-based scenarios. The pre-course work comprised of syllabus and e-learning modules will be available for the first time through the new SPS website portal and available for use on a multitude of platforms such as smart phones and tablets. An afternoon conference workshop will showcase how platinum member institutions can use the sedation provider course to fulfill training and credentialling needs for institutional sedation services. This free workshop will feature speakers that have used the provider course at their institution targeting select provider groups and will discuss their experiences in implementation as well as the metrics used to gauge success.
The SPS Sedation Provider Course® also provides opportunities for SPS members with an interest in teaching. SPS members interested in Simulation Debriefing, contact Kamal Abulebda, MD at kabulebd@iupui.edu.
