Maintenance of Certification (MOC) is necessary for any physician who wants to provide evidence of ongoing competence in the specialty and/or subspecialty in which training was originally received. However, the process for obtaining MOC is often cumbersome, unduly repetitive, and may even be devoid of anything relevant to the actual practice of the specialty/subspecialty.
Given the requirement of MOC and the desire to provide SPS members an opportunity to obtain this easily, the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Sub-Committee of the SPS Quality Improvement Committee has been exploring ways to enable SPS Members, as part of their membership, to obtain Part 4 MOC credit for sedation related quality improvement projects. The goal would be to (1) have several MOC approved quality improvement projects available for participation on the SPS Member Website and (2) have a mechanism whereby a member-derived quality improvement project could be submitted via the Website for review and awarding of MOC Part 4 credit, if it meets specific criteria.
In order to make this possible, we have made significant progress in developing a partnership with a well-established organization that already is an accredited granter of CME and MOC. We believe this partnership will be of significant mutual benefit and, most importantly, will be very useful to SPS members who are already doing so much in the field of national and international procedural sedation but are often not receiving the MOC credit that is necessary. The logistics, operations, and cost of such a partnership is being worked out currently, and we will keep the membership updated regarding our progress.
More to come in the very near future……..
