SPS Plenary Session | May 22, 2019, 8:30 am | Dr. Erica Riedesel
It’s not just about “holding still”. Dr Riedesel discussed the radiologist’s perspective for radiologic studies. It’s about obtaining excellent quality diagnostic images, minimizing complications, and improving the patient experience.
From VCUGs in which patients need to be relaxed enough to cooperate with voiding on command to ultrasound (the number one diagnostic imaging study in Pediatric Radiology) to nuclear medicine to CT to MRI – quality imaging is needed. Motion is the enemy of MRI!
She presented an overview of the different modalities, identifying the nuances of the imaging involved. Patient cooperation was the term repeated throughout her presentation. She emphasized the collaboration between the radiologist and seditionist in terms of positioning, anxiolysis and analgesia.
Her enthusiasm shone throughout her presentation!
